MOLDOVA is a landlocked, somewhat triangularshaped republic in southeast Europe that, from 1940 to 1991, was part of the USSR and was called the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. It is bordered by Romania in the west and bounded on all other sides by Ukraine. The River Prut forms the western boundary with Romania, while the River Dnister (Nistru) flows close to the eastern border and coincides with it in the northeast and southeast.
MICRONESIA was formerly part of the US-administered UN Trust Territory of the Pacific, known as the Caroline Islands, and became independent in 1990. This self-governing republic consists of around 600 islands in the Caroline Islands Archipelago, scattered across the western Pacific Ocean roughly 4,025 kilometers or 2,500 miles southwest of Hawaii.

The climate is tropical maritime with little temperature variation, and rainfall is at its heaviest from July to October.
MALTA, situated in the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 288 kilometres or 180 miles east of North Africa (Tunisia) and 93 kilometers or 58 miles south of Sicily, is an archipelago of three large inhabited islands and two small uninhabited ones, which together form an independent country of over 376,000 people.
MALI is a landlocked republic in West Africa. Shaped somewhat like a butterfly with one wing more massive than the other, it consists mainly of level plains interrupted by isolated groups of hills and mountains. It rises to 1,155 meters or 3,790 feet in the Adrar des Iforas Mountains in the northeast.
The northern third lies within the Sahara Desert, which is slowly encroaching southwards, and life here revolves around the few oases. Southwest of the real desert lies a region of dry grassland called the Sahel, and this gives way to better-watered land surrounding the Rivers Niger and Senegal and their tributaries.
MALDIVES, the, is a republic consisting of 1,200 low-lying coral islands grouped into 12 atolls, lying 640 kilometers or 398 miles southwest of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. Roughly 202 islands are inhabited, and the highest point is only 1.5 meters or 5 feet above sea level.
Independence gained in 1965, with a republic formed three years later.
